Terri Naidu, Christy Clark, Cheryl Nilsson and Ruby Harrison

On today’s show, I spoke with Cheryl Nilsson (pictured to my left), who has waited almost two years for a double lung transplant in BC. She’s moving to Toronto in the hopes of getting her transplant sooner, but the costs of her care and housing are prohibitive. If you can help, Cheryl’s friends have set up a trust fund. Deposits can be made at any Vancity Savings Credit Union: Account #394049 (Branch 19) Cheryl Nilsson (In Trust).

Cheryl worked here at the Burnaby Hospital for many years when she was yougner and we are all saddened to see her like this. She is very well remembered because she was always so cheerful and sunny. we will be collecting for the trust fund and we wish her all the best. Please pass this on to her, that she is in our prayers.

We know that Cheryl misses her family and friends (and Doctors & Nurses) from B.C. very much. Even through this very difficult time she is cheerful and friendly to everyone she meets. Cheryl, you are an inspiration to everyone who hears your story. We will continue to get your message out about the importance of organ donation. Please know that your family here in the Toronto area will support you and help you however we can.

Just wanted to update you on Cheryl’s status. As of today she is on her second week after her double lung transplant. She has now had the breathing tube and her chest tube removed. She is working hard to recover. She still has a long road ahead of her but she is a fighter and will succeed. Thanks to everyone for their support. If you would like to stay up to date on her status please check out her support group on Facebook called support for Cheryl Nilsson

Cheryl was the strongest person I have ever known. She smiled no matter how difficult things became. She was a true friend and I could count on her no matter what. I am so blessed to have her in my life for the past 9 years. Towards the end, she still thought of everyone but herself. She is what we should all strive for…… to be someone who values life and someone knows what its really all about. Don’t value material things – they don’t make us who we are or what we’re worth. Value family, friends, love and taking care of each other. Make sure you know what really matters in your life because life is so precious and can be taken away so quickly and without reason. Cheryl, I love you my friend, and I will NEVER let your memory or spirit die. I am so lucky to have had you in my life and I’m so happy you met my dear Stephanie. I KNOW she has a guardian angel watching over her. My thoughts would not be complete without saying an eternal “thank you” to Ruby and Rick – you have been Cheryl’s strength for so long. You have both been living angels and I KNOW Cheryl was at peace knowing you were both nearby. I must say goodbye to my dear friend – but only the physical angel – the REAL angel will always be with us. I love you Cheryl and always will. We will meet again! Your friend forever and ever – Big Cheryl, Rick and Stephanie. xoxoxoxox
